Argyle round-up: Wednesday, March 30

First team beaten at Ipswich

Argyle’s run of six consecutive victories without conceding a goal came to an end on Saturday as Steven Schumacher’s side slipped to a 1-0 reverse at Ipswich Town.

Sam Morsy’s tap-in proved the difference as Argyle suffered their first defeat since the end of February.

The Pilgrims remain well placed in fourth spot in Sky Bet League One and enjoy a seven-point cushion inside the play-offs, albeit having now played a game more than most other sides.

Mixed fortunes for club sides

It was double disappointment in Suffolk this weekend as Argyle Women’s four game winning run was ended with a 2-0 defeat away to league leaders Ipswich Town despite a battling performance from The Pilgrims.

Goals either side of the break from Eva Hubbard and Eloise King condemned the Greens to defeat at the Goldstar Ground on Sunday.

Argyle’s Academy side were denied all three points from their trip to Gillingham under-18s in agonising circumstances, with the hosts scoring in stoppage time to cancel out Oscar Massey’s earlier strike and end the Pilgrims’ 100 per cent record in Merit League One.

The Greens remain top of the table, two points clear of both Gillingham and Portsmouth.

Tickets running out for Oxford

Saturday’s crunch Sky Bet League One clash with fellow play-off chasers Oxford United is set to be played in front of a full house, with less than 1,000 tickets remaining on sale with a few days still to go.

Steven Schumacher’s Greens head into the fixture in fourth place, five points clear of the U’s in fifth, albeit having played one game more, and a win would bring the Pilgrims one step closer to confirming a place in the post-season play-offs at a minimum.

The Plymouth Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will headline celebrations on Argyle’s Armed Services Day fixture, sponsored by Babcock International, on Saturday.

The musical wing of the Royal Navy will perform pre-match and at half-time, marching in from the vehicle gate located on the corner of the Devonport End and Lyndhurst Road Stand before the clash at Home Park.

In May, after Argyle complete their Sky Bet League One campaign, the pristine surface at the Theatre of Greens will be offered up to members of the public for an unforgettable experience.

Argyle’s range of corporate packages provide a truly unique team-building or celebratory environment for staff groups and business clients to get together, while football fans – Argyle or otherwise – will be able to book their place on the club’s Fan vs Fan fixture taking place on Friday, May 20.

Demand will be high for Play on the Pitch sessions at Home Park. For more information on the packages available, or to ensure that your slot is booked, contact hospitality@pafc.co.uk, or call 01752 302206.
