By the end of the weekend we will know the identity of the four clubs that will compete in this year’s Premier T20 Cup Finals Day, with all ten teams playing their final two pool matches on Saturday.
Wadebridge are very much in pole position to take top spot in Pool B, requiring only one victory from their two games at St Austell to rubber-stamp their Finals Day participation. St Just will join them if they can win both of their games at home to Camborne, but one victory will likely be enough for them to advance from Pool A.
The destination of the other two teams is less clear cut. In Pool A, Penzance, Redruth and Camborne are all level on six points. The former pair face each other at Penzance and whoever wins both matches will advance, but Camborne know they will go through if they win both matches at St Just. The picture gets a little murky if teams pick up one win apiece in either or both match-ups, with net run rate likely to come into play to decide who qualifies. Hayle, who have four points, need an unlikely set of results to qualify, but two wins over already eliminated Truro would give them an outside chance.
In Pool B, St Austell will advance with two wins at home to Wadebridge, while one win may be enough thanks to their superior net run rate. Any slip-up would let in Callington and Werrington, who face each other. Two defeats for St Austell, coupled with two wins for Callington would see the latter qualify, while two wins for Werrington would see their hopes come down to net run rate.
We’ll be back on Monday with a round-up of the weekend’s events, before returning next Friday to look ahead to next week’s fixtures.
