The fixtures for the 2022/23 South West Peninsula League Premier West season have been revealed, writes Matt Friday.
The campaign starts on Friday, August 5 with last year’s runners-up Liskeard Athletic welcoming Shaun Vincent’s Callington Town to Lux Park. The rest of the league get going a day later with St Blazey, now managed by Ryan Fice, entertaining Penryn Athletic, who themselves now have Micky Hunt at the helm, while Matt Hayden begins life as Bodmin Town boss at home to Sticker.
Newly-promoted Mullion, who finished second in the St Piran League West last season, will make their SWPL debut at home to Camelford, while fellow new-boys Bude Town, looking forward to their first SWPL campaign since the 2018/19 season after being promoted from the St Piran League East, begin their campaign with a home match against Newquay.
St Dennis, who were recently reprieved from relegation to the St Piran League, begin their season at their Boscawen Park home as Wadebridge Town come to mid-Cornwall, while Dobwalls, now jointly managed by Ben Washam and Brad Gargett, make the trip to Mark Smith’s St Austell.
Rounding off the opening fixtures is Adam Paterson and Josh Stockdale’s Godolphin Atlantic side at home to Launceston, now being managed by Neil Price, while Wendron United and Penzance are without a game on the opening weekend as the Dron asked not to have a fixture.
The season is due to end on Saturday, April 29, 2023, with the Walter C Parson League Cup final due to take place seven days later on Saturday, May 7, and the Champions Bowl match between the winners of the SWPL’s east and west divisions set to be held on Saturday, May 14.
