National League 2 West

Redruth got their season off to the perfect start with a six-try victory over Stourbridge at The Rec. Dean Bonds landed the opening try after ten minutes before a Fraser Honey penalty and converted tries from Will Trewin and Jack Simmons put the hosts 22-3 up, with things going from bad to worse for the visitors when prop Chad Thorne received a red card for a challenge on Trewin.

There was still time for Richard Brown to go over for another converted try before the interval, with Todd Prisk adding another early in the second half. From there, the hosts’ eased off and Stourbridge found their sole try through right-wing Dallas Ororo, with Kyle Bradley dotting down under the posts for the Reds soon after to round off the scoring.

St Austell are the early Regional Tribute 2 South West pacesetters after an error-strewn win over North Petherton at Tregorrick Park. Tries from Rob Jeffs, Matt Shepherd and Max Bullen – all converted by Shepherd – gave the hosts a 21-3 lead at the break before John Frost went over for the visitors’ sole score, with Kyle Marriott adding a fourth try, again converted, to seal the bonus point late on.

Last season’s runaway Western Counties West champions Wadebridge Camels came within a whisker of earning victory on their higher-division debut, with the Camels sharing the points at home to Chard. James Grubb and Aiden Cullis scored unconverted tries for the hosts.

Fellow newly-promoted Duchy side Truro were on the wrong end of a close 22-18 contest at St Clement’s Hill. Tom Duncan and Luke Tidball went over for the hosts, with Ashley Hosking converting one and adding two penalties as the city side earned a losing bonus point.
