Torpoint and St Blazey among big winners in Vase – Cornish football round-up

FA Vase second qualifying round

Torpoint Athletic continued their fine cup form this season with a seven-goal thrashing of South West Peninsula League Premier West outfit Wendron United at The Mill. Curtis Damerell scored a hat-trick for the Western League side, whose three wins this season have all come in cups, with Gary Hird (2), Callum Thompson and Darren Hicks completing the rout.

Torpoint are joined in the next round by fellow Western League new boys Falmouth Town, who won 5-0 at home to SWPL side Launceston. Tim Nixon, Charlie Edney and Luke Brabyn put Andrew Westgarth’s side three goals up inside 15 minutes, with Jack Bray-Evans capping the game off with a second-half brace.

Helston Athletic backed up their sensational FA Cup win in midweek with a fine 2-1 victory at home to high-flying Saltash United. Rikki Shepherd scored both goals for the Blues, with Alex Cairo replying for the Ashes.

Mousehole are the fourth Cornish Western League side in the hat after they triumphed 5-1 at Shepton Mallet. Louis Price, Kyle Fraser, Hayden Turner, Andy Watkins and Andrew Elcock secured progression for Jake Ash’s side.

St Blazey
 are the only SWPL Premier West side left in the Vase after they put six past Camelford at Trefrew Park. Liam Eddy grabbed his second hat-trick in three games, with Luke Cloke (2) and Alfie Wotton also scoring for the Green and Blacks.

Millbrook’s hopes are over for another year after they went down to a 5-2 defeat at home to Ivybridge Town, with Josh Toulson and Jake Foster grabbing the goals for Macca Brown’s side.

Liskeard Athletic are also out after they suffered a 3-1 reverse at Bishops Lydeard, with James Rowe scoring for the Blues.

Southern League Premier South

Rocky Neal scored a last-minute winner as Truro City moved up to second in the Southern League Premier South after defeating Gosport Borough 1-0 at Bolitho Park.

Paul Wotton’s side looked destined for their second successive league draw until a foul in the box two minutes from time handed the hosts the chance to steal all three points, with Neal putting the spot-kick away to seal the White Tigers’ fifth win of the campaign.

South West Peninsula League Premier West

Tornado Bello scored a hat-trick as Bude Town returned to second in the division following a 6-2 triumph over Penzance at Broadclose Park. Josh Baxter and Billy and Harry Hopcroft completed the Seasiders’ scoring, with Rolandas Sumnauskas and Kizzy Snowden replying for the Magpies.

Jake Anderson scored twice as Dobwalls defeated Sticker 3-2 in the only other SWPL Premier West game on Saturday. Oscar Larrieu also netted on his debut for the Reds, with Alfie Flack and Matt Searle replying for Sticker.
