Sam Cosgrove scores Argyle’s opening goal
Argyle roared back to the top of League One on Saturday in front of a capacity Home Park crowd.
Sam Cosgrove pounced on a rebound from a Mickel Miller shot to put the Greens in the lead on 24 minutes and it remained 1-0 at half time.
The Green Army had to wait until the 70th minute for Argyle to put more distance between themselves and the visitors, and it was substitute Finn Azaz who fired home with the second in the 70th minute. But they were back on the edges of their seats in the 79th minute when Pompey’s Reeco Hackett pulled one back for the visitors.
That’s how it remained until the referee conjured up – from who knows where – six minutes of added time. But any potential late comeback was killed off in the 93rd minute when Ryan Hardie lifted the ball over the Portsmouth ‘keeper to send Home Park into ecstasy. With Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town playing out a draw, Argyle were once again on top of the table, eight points inside the automatic promotion zone.
