About us

Who are we?

We are a group of seasoned writers and photographers with many years experience between us in local sports media.

Colin Bradbury

Colin is a sports photographer who has shot football, rugby, cricket, cycling, hockey, motorsport, sailing, equestrian events and more across Cornwall and beyond. He has freelanced for the West Briton, Sunday Independent and Voice newspapers and has also been published in The Times, The Daily Telegraph and the Non-League Football Paper.

He understands how local sports clubs work from the inside. For several years he managed Truro City Football Club’s media and PR activities. He was the team photographer, wrote and edited the match day programme and liaised with the local and national print and broadcast media.

Matt Friday

Matt is a sports writer and photographer who has spent the last seven years working in Cornish sport. After completing his degree at Cardiff University in 2016, he began his journalism career at the Falmouth Packet later that year, covering football on a voluntary basis until 2018, when he began a three-year stint as sports editor.

In this role he was responsible for the sport sections of both the Falmouth Packet and Helston Packet newspapers, as well as the company’s website and social media. Highlights of his time at the Packet included covering Falmouth Town’s Senior Cup-winning campaign and Helston Athletic under-18s’ historic trip to EFL side Forest Green Rovers in the FA Youth Cup first round proper.

He joined the Voice newspaper series as production manager in 2021, where he oversaw the production of the sport section of each of the company’s six printed titles.

Tom Howe

Tom is a sports writer and media manager with ten years’ experience at the very heart of Cornish sport. After producing content for a number of local outlets – including the West Briton, Packet Newspapers and Cornish Soccer – he went on to become sports editor of the Newquay Voice upon graduation from Falmouth University in 2013.

Tom also freelanced for the Sunday Independent from 2015 before transitioning onto sports sub-editor and, by March 2018, deputy sports editor. In April of 2019, Tom was promoted to the role of head of sport content at Independent Media, managing a team of journalists, photographers and students across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Tom currently holds the post of media director for the Kernow Football Alliance.

Gareth Davies

Gareth is a sports journalist and writer who learnt his trade in Dorset before moving to Cornwall in 2016.

When in Dorset, Gareth worked on a freelance basis for the Bournemouth Daily Echo covering football, rugby union and cricket. He also contributed historical articles for AFC Bournemouth’s award winning programme ‘Matchday’, doing so until 2020.

His reputation as a well-respected contributor to the Cherries’ programme led to guest appearances on TalkSport offering post-game analysis and written pieces on the BBC Sport website covering transfer deadline days.

In Cornwall, Gareth started to work on a freelance basis for the St Austell Voice newspaper. During the autumn of 2018, he was appointed sports editor of the St Austell Voice, before becoming the chief sports writer at Independent Media a few months later. He covered all the professional teams that the paper reached which included Exeter Chiefs (rugby union), Plymouth Argyle (football) and Somerset (county cricket).

Currently, Gareth is the head of media and communications at Cornwall RLFC.
